By the time it hit the afternoon lull, Stella had served what could easily have been over a hundred customers. They had taken thousands of dollars’ worth of sales, and the whole of Misty Vale was so full of excitement that it felt as if there had been an explosion of festive Bavarian cheer throughout every street and building.

She leaned back against the counter and sighed. She hadn’t stopped for hours; her back was beginning to ache, and her feet were killing her, but she felt so happy that she didn’t mind. This store and working in it was so much fun, and she loved it already. Back in the city, her roles had all been so boring and dull. Working in offices or in stiff retail environments, she had constantly felt like she was being watched and judged. Here, she called the shots, and she loved the atmosphere; it was so magical.

She couldn’t believe it when she checked the time and it was almost five. A whole day had flown by, and with the doors to Main Street flung open, she could hear the music drifting up from the festival and filtering out of the bars nearby. There was a crisp autumn chill in the air, and it was already beginning to get dark. She thought about closing up and heading down to the festival to see what it was all about, but now that it was starting to slow in the shop, and she had real time to think, she felt a little nag of disappointment that she hadn’t yet seen Smith. He had said he was going to find her, after all.

Then, suddenly, as if he had read her mind, and they were already connected by some deep invisible force, she had the feeling inside of her that he was near. She felt her body respond to him, she felt her lips tingle, and she reached up and touched them, smiling and feeling their heat. She could feel the sensation of his hands on her hips, as if his touch had left a memory on her and was drawing her back into it as he grew closer.

When she looked up to the doorway, Smith was walking inside, his eyes bright and his smile wide, and looking so goddam hot and sexy that she didn’t know how she wasn’t going to jump his bones right there and then. She felt her skin begin to heat up and her heart race.

Fuck, he’s too good to be true.

“Hey there, shop girl,” he said with a wink as he closed the door quietly behind him and turned the sign so that it read, ‘Closed’.

Stella laughed and cocked her head to the side; he looked back at her with mischief.

“Can I help you, sir?” she asked in jest, putting her best customer service face forward.

“I think so…” he said, his voice trailing off as he began to look around the room, both of them easily slipping into the role playing. “I’ve been told there’s something rare and sweet here, and I’d like to find it.
